Furman's Cassedy Selected NCBWA National Hitter-of-the-Week
April 26, 2006
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman first baseman Case Cassedy has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Pro-Line Cap National Hitter-of-the-Week for his performance in four games last week.
A product of Tallahassee, Fla., Cassedy batted .611 (11-for-18) with six doubles, a triple, and two home runs while scoring six runs and driving in 11 in helping Furman to a 3-1 record. He went 2-for-4 and delivered the go-ahead, two-run double in Furman's 5-4 win over nationally sixth-ranked Clemson last Wednesday. On Saturday he doubled three times and scored twice in the Paladins' 3-2 victory over Appalachian State. After driving in Furman's two runs in a 7-2 loss to ASU in game one of a Sunday doubleheader, he came back in game two and hit for the cycle as part of a 5-for-6, two-home run performance in a 17-11 triumph that also included a career high seven RBI.
Cassedy's cycle was the first by a Paladin since Tommy John III accomplished the feat in a 5-4 win over Appalachian State during the 2000 season. The Paladin senior and 2005 All-SoCon Tournament selection is now batting .394 on the season with six home runs and a team leading 46 RBI.
Furman is now 26-12 on the season and 12-3 in SoCon play. The Paladins play at Charlotte tonight in a 6:00 p.m. game that will broadcast by WGOG 96.3 FM beginning at 5:45 p.m. Chuck Hussion will deliver the play-by-play, and color commentary will be handled by Jonathan Brown and former Paladin baseball standout Clint Hill.
