GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Tickets to the May 16 Furman vs. South Carolina baseball game at Greenville's new West End Field are now on sale, it was announced today.

West End Stadium, which opened on April 6, serves as home of The Greenville Drive, the Single A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Labeled a mini Fenway Park and located in downtown Greenville, the facility, which seats 5,000, sports a 30 foot high `Green Monster' left field fence and famous Pesky Pole down the right field line.

Furman and South Carolina have been baseball rivals since 1896, having met 152 times on the diamond over the years. The Gamecocks, who recently were ranked No. 1 nationally by Collegiate Baseball Magazine, own a 97-53-2 series advantage, including an 11-3 victory over the Paladins in Columbia on March 22. Furman, however, knocked off USC twice last year, including a 6-2 decision at Municipal Stadium.

Currently 21-10 on the season and in first place in the Southern Conference with an 8-1 league mark, Furman defeated Charleston Southern 4-2 on Tuesday evening. The Paladins open a three-game Southern Conference series against Georgia Southern tonight with a 7:00 p.m. game at Furman Stadium.
