GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Grant Rembert belted a three-run home run and drove in four runs to help power Elon to a 15-7 win over Furman in the first game of three-game Southern Conference series Friday evening at Furman Stadium.

Rembert, a senior rightfielder from Hickory, N.C., went 2-for-4, delivered an RBI single in the first inning, and added his three-run blast as part of a seven-run fourth to highlight the offensive onslaught for Elon (37-13, 17-5 SoCon).

The Phoenix, who registered 22 hits in a 24-6 win over Georgia Southern last Sunday, pounded out 17 hits in the contest -- the most surrendered by the Paladins this season -- as every starter collected a hit, including three by Paul Bennett and Adam Weaver, who also drove in three runs.

A.J. Davidiuk homered and doubled for Furman (28-15, 13-6 SoCon), which lost only its second league home game in 10 outings this season.

Kevin Regan (2-1) picked up the win after working an inning of relief of Phoenix starter Lance Cole, who lasted just 2 2/3 innings after giving up four runs on six hits and a walk.

Jesse Lewter pitched 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief, surrendering only three hits and two walks while striking out three.

Furman starting pitcher Matt Klinker (5-3) took the loss after yielding seven runs, including four earned, on nine hits and one walk.

Elon touched up Klinker for three unearned runs in the first inning. Donny Jobe reached on an error to lead off and advanced to third on Weaver's single. With one out, Chris Price's single plated Jobe, and with two outs Rembert delivered a base hit to score Weaver. The Phoenix finished off the frame with an RBI single to center field by Ryan Addison to drive home Price.

The Phoenix made it 4-0 with a run in the second on Weaver's sacrifice fly.

Furman cut the lead in half with two runs in its half of the second. Davidiuk led off with a home run, his ninth of the season, and Ben Terry later added a sacrifice fly, which plated Will Stembridge.

The Paladins tied the game in the third, scoring a pair of runs after two outs. Davidiuk doubled and came around to score on Stembridge's single to left. After stealing second, Stembridge scored on a Marcus Rose double.

Elon batted around in the fourth, sending 10 hitters to plate and scoring seven runs on seven hits against three Paladin pitchers. Chris Vasami's two-run double and Rembert's three-run home run to left off Paladin reliever Patrick Arnett highlighted the rally that stretched the Phoenix lead to 11-4.

Furman answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a Case Cassedy groundout and RBI double by Terry

Elon continued its offensive display in the fifth with a Robert Rodebaugh two-run home run, and the Phoenix tacked on single runs in the sixth and eighth.

The Paladins and Phoenix play game two of the series on Saturday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
