Box Score

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers used a four-run seventh inning to take control in a 6-1 non-conference win over Furman on Tuesday night at Tom & Lib Philips Field.

Neither team scored through the first five innings, though Charlotte (22-14) had plenty of opportunities. The 49ers left men in scoring position in each of the first four innings.

Charlotte starter Adam Mills did not allow a run, but got no decision when he left a scoreless game after five innings of work. The sophomore struck out five and allowed just two singles.

Reliever Matt Foard put himself in position to win his third game this season when he retired Furman (14-20) in order in the top of the sixth.

The Niners would start the scoring in the bottom half, when Adam Willard led off with a double. He would steal third base, and scored when the throw down sailed into left field.

Charlotte broke the game open in their next turn at the plate, scoring four runs on three hits.

The Paladins broke up the shutout with a single run in the top of the ninth against Foard. Andrew Greene singled into the hole at shortstop, and scored on a double to right by Case Cassedy. Furman managed just six hits in the game, and the ninth was their first multiple-hit inning of the game.

Foard (3-2) finished with four innings pitched, allowing just one run on four hits.
