GREENVILLE, S.C.--Furman opened the 2005 baseball season Saturday with a double header split with High Point, taking game one 15-3 and losing the second game 9-5.

In game one, Case Cassedy, Sam McLain, and Matthew Betsill pounded out three hits each to spark a 17-hit Paladin attack. Sam Perry (1-0) pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs to earn the victory.

Trailing 2-1, Furman struck for six runs in the third inning on five hits off Panthers starter Robert Bland to take a 6-3 lead.

The Paladins tacked on five runs in the fifth, highlighted by A.J. Davidiuk's two-run double. Davidiuk, who went 2-for-5 in the contest, tied Furman's record for longest hitting streak at 23 games and broke the record in game two on a single through the left side in the fourth inning.

In game two, Panther second baseman Dustin Holtzman's two-out, two-run triple off Furman pitcher David Mitchell (0-1) highlighted a three-run eighth inning to give High Point a 6-5 lead.

The Panthers added three runs in the ninth on a two-run triple by Chris Ramirez. Jeremy Neyra then followed with a sacrifice fly for the Panthers final run of the frame.

Brandon Moore (1-0) picked up the victory after pitching 2 1/3 innings of relief and allowing only two hits.

Furman and High Point conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
