Title: Assistant Coach

Derek Hassell is entering his first season as an assistant coach at Furman and will be in charge of the Paladin outfielders while assisting with the hitters.

Previously Hassell worked at TCU for two seasons as director of baseball operations.During his time there the Horned Frogswon two Mountain West Conference titles and played in the program's first ever Super Regional against Texas in 2009.

Prior to going to TCU he was served as recruiting coordinator at Charleston Southern University and coached the team's hitters and infielders.

The Wisconsin native served as head coach of the Solingen Alligators in Germany's highest baseball league and led his team to a 37-8 record, Bundesliga North Division title, and first ever German national championship.

Hassell 's coaching tenure also includes stints at Gardner-Webb (N.C.) University, Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) College and at his alma mater, Carroll(Wisc.)University.

He has worked with Athletes in Action as a head summer league coach for three years, most recently in 2004 when he directed the Alfred A's to a 25-17 record in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Throughout his coaching tenure he has mentored over40 players who have been drafted by Major League Baseball.

Hassell played baseball at CarrollUniversity, where he hit .415 his senior year and set several records, including most hits in a season. He also reached base in 19 consecutive at bats, which at the time tied an NCAA Division III record.

He earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science at Carrroll and later a master's degree in liberal arts from TCU.
