Gainesville, Fla. - Furman track & field standout Chibuzo Aguocha will compete in the triple jump at the 2007 NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championships to be held at the University of Florida this weekend at James G. Pressley Stadium at Percy Beard Track. Aguocha and nearly 500 other athletes will be competing for the right to advance to the 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on June 6-9.

Aguocha posted a mark of 12.74m in the triple jump at the 2007 Southern Conference Championships at the end of April, topping the regional qualifying mark of 12.32m. She is the lone NCAA qualifier for the Paladins this season. An all-conference performer in both track & field and volleyball, Aguocha has set and reset the Furman records in the long jump and triple jump. The recently-named Furman Female Athlete of the Year had bettered the Lady Paladin triple jump record with her mark of 11.99m at the season-opening meet, before destroying that mark at the SoCon Championships.

Almost 500 athletes from 100 colleges and universities will be in Gainesville for the NCAA East Regional Championship. The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three relays in the 4x100m and 4x400 m will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. The NCAA East Regional will begin at noon ET on Friday, May 25, with the men's hammer throw. Aguocha will compete in one of the four triple jump heats on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. Live results can be found at www.GatorZone.com.
