Aguocha Posts NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark

April 23, 2007

Greenville, S.C. - Furman triple jumper Chibuzo Aguocha qualified for the NCAA Regional meet with her mark of 12.74m at the Southern Conference Championships this past weekend. Aguocha placed second in the triple jump at this weekend's meet and is the lone Paladin to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet.

Aguocha, an all-conference performer, has set and reset the Furman records in the long jump and triple jump. Earlier this season she bettered the Lady Paladin triple jump record with her mark of 11.99 at the Winthrop Duals. Aguocha smashed that record with her mark of 12.74m this weekend, topping the regional qualifying mark of 12.32m. The native of Houston, Texas, also placed sixth in the long jump at the league meet with her jump of 5.73m. Aguocha is also a member of the Lady Paladin volleyball team.

McKenzie Sharpe, Tyler Johnson and David Moseley are Furman's most recent NCAA regional qualifiers, having each competed in last year's meet. Johnson had the best finish with a 16th place showing in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Aguocha will travel to the University of Florida to compete in the regional meet that will take place on May 25-26 in Gainesville, Fla.
