Statesboro, Ga. -- Paladin senior Patrick Morgan took first place in the 1500m race to lead the Furman men's and women's track and field teams on the final day of the 2009 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Eagle Field on the campus of Georgia Southern University. As one of the top three finishers in the event, Morgan earned all-conference honors.

Morgan ran a season-best time of 3:49.36 to beat the field in the 1500m. He also competed in the 5000m run, crossing the finish line in 10th place with a time of 15:46.86. Senior Alex Plasencia posted an eighth-place showing in the 5000m with a mark of 15:36.06. Freshman Lee Gilmer also earned points for the Paladins, taking fifth place in the finals of the 800m with a time of 1:55.97.

For the Lady Paladins, sophomore Monique Ositelu ran a 2:16.13 in the finals of the 800m to take sixth place. Rookie Chloe Kowalski grabbed sixth place in the 5000m race, running a time of 18:27.59. Jenna Callahan finished in the top 10 of the 1500m with a personal-best mark of 4:53.25.

Furman track and field will be back in action when the Paladins compete at the Orange/Purple Classic on the campus of Clemson University on Saturday, May 9.
