In a final tune-up before next week's Southern Conference Championships, the Furman track and field teams had a successful showing at the Solid Orange Classic at Clemson University's Rock Norman outdoor complex. Lindsey Barker and Megan Lordi each posted second-place showings at the event.
Barker crossed the finish line in 2:18.52 in the 800m run, which was good for second place overall. Lordi finished second in the 5000m run with her time of 20:00.70. Holly Stewart also competed for the Lady Paladins, running a time of 5:15.23 in the 1500m run to finish in seventh place overall.
On the men's side, Joseph Tenini produced the highest Furman finish with his third-place showing in the 1500m run. Tenini posted a time of 4:05.41. Teammates Jed Wilkerson (9th) and Jeff O'Connell (11th) also competed in that event. Wilkerson picked up a fifth-place finish in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:00.05. In the field events, Doug Sellars and Steve Adams finished in the top six in the discus throw. Sellars (5th) posted a mark of 40.17m and Adams (6th) a mark of 38.61m.
Furman heads to the ASU Track at Kidd Brewer Stadium on the campus of Appalachian State University to take part in the 2007 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet begins on Saturday, April 21.
