Statesboro, GA - The Furman men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are set to compete in the 2006 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday on the campus of Georgia Southern University. The Paladins place 26 competitors among the Top-10 individual performers this season, including three conference season-best marks.

Senior Tyler Johnson and juniors David Moseley and McKenzie Sharpe each own the conference season-best performance in one event. Johnson, a 2004 All-SoCon performer in the 800 meter run, is tops in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 14:41.20. Moseley, already a two-time All-SoCon performer, leads the conference in the javelin with a toss of 201-1 feet. Sharpe, an All-SoCon performer in the 800 meter run last year, placed first in the conference this season in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.58.

The Paladins placed seventh in last year's championships, with Sam Robinson (10,000m), Moseley (javelin), and the 4x100m relay team (Andrew Thacker, Jon McDonald, Alonzo Johnson, and Will Forrest) each earning All-SoCon honors.

The Lady Paladins also placed seventh at last year's conference meet. Sharpe (800m) earned All-SoCon accolades for Furman.

Furman is under the leadership of head coach Gene Mullin in his 23rd year. Mullin, a seven-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, has coached athletes to 230 All-Southern Conference citations and 377 Academic Honor Roll Awards in the last 15 years.
