Gilmer Takes First Place In 1,500m At Georgia Tech Invitational
ATLANTA, GA. – Senior Lee Gilmer won the 1,500m with a time of 3:47.45 to lead the Furman track and field teams this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. Sophomore James Perez took 11th place in the event with a time of 3:53.60, while junior Wilkerson Given turned in a time of 4:00.68 for 24th place in the race.
Freshman Tripp Hurt placed third in the 3,000m Steeplechase after posting a time of 9:21.09, while senior Chris Caldwell finished 19th with a time of 15:35.75 in the 5,000m. Senior Cortez Johnson posted a time of 10.70 for 26th place in the 100m. Gilmer picked up a 14th-place finish in the 800m after notching a time of 1:51.87, followed by Perez with a time of 1:55.34 for 42nd place.
Junior Scott DesMarais was the only Paladin to compete in the field events, turning in a mark of 44.80 (147-00) for 12th place in the discus competition.
For the Paladin women's team, senior Erin Barker placed 6th with a time of 4:35.12 in the 1,500m, while sophomore Catherine Burton finished 18th in the event after recording a time of 4:35.12.
