ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CRITERIA
All current Paladin Club members and former athletes may nominate candidates by submitting nominations to the Paladin Club office (864.294.3469 or [email protected]) or by using the online nomination form. Nominations should be received no later than March 15 for the class to be inducted in the fall of that year. Nominations received after March 15 will be placed on the ballot for the following year.
The twelve-member Hall of Fame Selection Committee is outlined in the Lettermen's Association bylaws and consists of the following: Paladin Club Board President, Lettermen's Association President, Lettermen's Association Vice President, Athletics Director, Director of Athletics Development, Senior Women's Administrator, Sports Information Director, and five at-large members. At-large members must be current members of the Paladin Club and are selected by the Director of Athletics Development and the Paladin Club Board President.
Former athletes and coaches must have been separated from the university for a minimum of five years to be eligible for the Athletic Hall of Fame. However, this requirement may be waived for a coach who has been coaching for a minimum of twenty-five years.
To be eligible, all student-athletes must have either graduated and received a degree from Furman University OR must have been making progress toward a degree and in good academic standing at the time of his or her departure from the University.
Likewise, coaches being chosen for the Athletic Hall of Fame shall have demonstrated extremely high professional achievement while at Furman University in their particular sport or sports. High honors should include such things as establishment of school, conference or national records by individuals or teams coached, conference championships, multiple NCAA playoff selections, and other accomplishments ranking them above their peers.
Anyone considered for membership in the Furman University Athletic Hall of Fame shall have demonstrated the highest standards of personal character and morals during their time at Furman. These same standards should be present at the time of their selection.
If the individual was an employee or student of the university, that person may not be considered for selection until after 5 years of separation from the university. The five years of separation rule may be waived if the candidate is a minimum of 70 years of age.
