    The Furman men’s tennis team opened the 2018 fall season this weekend at the Vanderbilt Scramble in Nashville, Tenn.  The Paladins competed against host Vanderbilt, Belmont, Lipscomb, Tennessee Tech, and Louisville during the three days of competition.

    Greenville, S.C. – Despite four Paladins finishing with double-digit kills, Winthrop held off a Furman rally to down the Paladins 3-1 (20-25, 25-13, 30-32, 20-25) on Friday night inside Alley Gym. The win moves the Eagles to 4-8 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 4-7.

    Greenville, S.C. – Furman volleyball opens the home portion of the 2018 schedule on Thursday, welcoming Appalachian State and Winthrop to Alley Gym for a pair of non-conference matches. The Paladins (4-5) are set to take on the Mountaineers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., before facing the Eagles on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Both matches are set to be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network.

    Senior Haylee Harford (-8) fired a final-round 63, establishing a new Paladin low round record and leading No. 8 Furman (-11) to a fourth-place finish at the 15th Annual Cougar Classic at the par 72, 6,261 yard Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C.  Due to the approach of Hurricane Florence and the mandatory evacuation of the South Carolina coast, Tuesday’s round has been canceled and the tournament shortened to 36 holes.
