Athletic Director's Corner

Happy New Year, Paladin fans!

As the calendar shifts I want to reflect on what an amazing year 2018 was for Paladin athletics.

We were able to win another seven SoCon titles and had our best comprehensive year by finishing 73rd in the Learfield Directors Cup. Our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and the community while also maintaining the top cumulative finish in the Southern Conference as evidenced by our finishes in the Germann Cup (1st) and the Commissioner’s Cup (3rd) Competitions for the 2017-18 school year.

Our men's and women's basketball programs are in full swing and beginning conference competition now that the holidays are behind us. We hope to make a splash in the regular season but also know that winning the SoCon Tournament in Asheville in March is the ultimate goal. Please make plans to join us at the tournaments from March 7-11 and visit this site for more information:

We are thrilled at the recent accolades for the men’s team as they were the first Furman basketball squad to EVER appear in the AP top 25 poll based on winning their first 12 games of the year, including two over teams who appeared in the 2018 Final Four.

On a personal note, as the father of a Furman freshman, I am reminded daily about the special challenges and opportunities Furman provides to an amazing group of young people. Our student-athletes continue to step up to the academic challenges and take advantage of the many incredible opportunities Furman provides. Looking ahead to 2019, I am excited to see how our student-athletes continue to adapt to the Furman Advantage and balance the internships, mentoring, and study away programs that provide the basis of the Furman experiential education. We will continue to thrive in competition among our peers and work in the community to make everyone associated with Furman University proud of our young men and women who wear the Purple with pride!

Go Paladins!
